(from our own correspondent. ) CAPTURE of the EELLYS. MELBOURNE. This Day. The man'murdeved by the Kellys at Sebastopool, was named Sherratt, a selector, and former associate of the gang. He was recently employed by the police, four of whom were secreted in a house near the scene of the tragedy. Byrne and the Kellys compelled a German acquaintance of Sherratt, to go and call him outside, and then Byrne instantly killed him out of revenge. The police summoned the Kellys to surrender, but they refused,' and remained outside the house where the police were ensconsed till morning. During the night, the Kellys fired a volley at the house, and then attempted to set it on fire. In the morning they had disappeared. The police went in pursuit, and surrounded them this morning, at Jones' Hotel, Glenrowan Station, 70 miles from the outrage at Sebastopool. Several encounters ensued, iv one of whioh two children were shot. "When the police arrived at Jones Hotel, there were twenty-five civilians bailed up there, including some platelayers whom they forced to tear up the rails ahead of a special train, but without, upsetting it. It was 3 o'clock this morning when the police arrived, and then fighting immediately commenced. Ned Kelly took to the bush shortly afterwards, but returned at daylight, and joined his mates A m the fray. They fought hard. Ned Kelly received a shot in the groin, and was captured. Byrne was killed, but his body remained in the hotel, which was held by Dan Kelly, and Steve Hart ultimately as outlaws continued their resistance. The police entered the hotel, the civilians having been previously released by the gang. The charred remains of Hart and Dan Kelly were found armored with plough shares to protect themselves from being'shot. The bodies of Byrne and a platelayer were recovered. The two children were only slightly wounded. The hotel-keeper, and the reporter of a Benalla paper, were also wounded. Ned Kelly has been taken to Benalla. He lias been wounded in three places, and it is scarcely expected he will recover. The following are the weights allotted to to the New Zealand horses in the Melbourne Cup : Mr. E. Outts' b.g. Mata Bst 21b. Messrs Mason and Vallance's blk.h. Camballo 7st 21b. The top weight is 9st 61bs. A dissolution of the Assembly is expected to take place soon.
