This Day. At the R.M. Court yesterday, Marks, fruiter, was fined 5s for Sunday trading, the R.M. remarking that he thought his former decision was wrong, and that the Act of Charles the First, respecting Sunday trading is in force in this colony. The Chamber of Commerce has declined to joiu in with Auckland in a petition to the United States for a reduction of duty on wool; but referred the matter to a committee. At the Police Court yesterday, a man was sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment for running off with a receipt which he had obtained before paying the money. There was a penny stamp on the receipt, and that was deemed to constitute the larceny. The Acclimatisation Society have come to the conclusion that some fish caught at the mouth of the Waimakariri River are real salmon trout, and decided to request the Govermenfc to. obtaid legislation this] session for prevention of netting the mouth* 1 of rivers. The Mayor has received some £90 towards the establishment of a soup kitchen in Christchurch.
