[from our own correspondent.] LONDON. May 22. The Australians played a three day's match with 18 of Longsight, concluding to-day. The Australians, first innings were 214. Longsight, first innings 118 ; second innings 109. Australians then went in and won by ten wickets. At the wool sales, yesterday, 10,900 bales were offered. There was a better demand for medium to common qualities ; but others neglected. To-day 7,000 bales -were offered and were in better demand. Consols 99f. New Zealand Loan 1879 ; quoted as 105. The Great Powers have come to an understanding, and have written a letter to the Turkish Government in regard to the non-execution of the Berlin Treaty so far as relates to Greece and Montenegro. The Great Powers threaten an European Conference at Berlin in July, failing the speedy settlement of existing difficulties. It is officially announced that Sir Bartle Frere remains as Governor and High Commissioner of the Cape Colony for the express purpose of assisting the proposed confederation of the South African Colonies. CALCUTTA. May 22. The Viceroy has been instructed to close the Afghan campaign with the least possible delay, but it is doubtful whether it can be soon effected as the hostile tribes continue fighting throughout.
