WELLINGTON.
This Day. An accident happened to the Stella on Wednesday. She left here on Tuesday with stores for The Brothers Lighthouse, but not being able to effect a landing, in consequence of the heavy sea, she went into Queen Charlotte's Sound for shelter on Wednesday morning and on coming out of the Sound, when between Cape Koamaroa and White Rock she struck on a sunken rock amidships. She dragged clear and was apparently uninjured. The rock on which she struck is about three-quarters of a mile outside any rock marked on the chart. She buoyed it, and Captain Johnson of the Marine Department went to-day in the Stella to take its bearings after which she will be placed on the slip for inspection. The question respecting Fire Brigades is not yet settled. The Insurance Companies offer to contribute one-third of the maintenance of the Brigade and to pay a Superintendent.
