SINGULAR DISCOVERY OF LOST GOLD CHAIN AND TRINKETS BY MEANS of a GRASSHOPPER.

<&2wo or threeieVißning's back, Mrs 0. D. Berry, wtßTof Mr. Berry, contractor, of the Gladstone Road, called at this office, and requested us to advertise the loss of a gold chain with trinkets at* attached, and a reward of £1 offered for their recovery. Yesterday morning Mr Berry .happened to be in conversation , with Mj\ Charles Priestly when a gi asshopper Bpraug on to his hand and re-^ mained there for a few seconds. Mr Priestly remarked that he thought grasshoppers were very pretty creatures, but he did not think they possessed the reasoning , powers which belonged to others of nature's creations. At this instant the grasshopper made a sprint? - forward. Mr Priestly followed it, as the grasshopper was an unusually fine one, and he wished to preserve it. The grasshopper made another jump and still another and it Was followed by Mr Priestly. The grasshopper settled upon, something yellow, bright and shining and. hopped no further. When Mt Priestly came up, the grasshopper was resting on one of the trinkets attaohed to the gold chain, and this is how Mrs Berry recovered her loss. Was this act on the part of the grasshopper instinct ' or the exercise of reasoning power, or what was it ? We pause for a reply. Mr Priestly has sent in a claim for the reward of £1, but Mrs Berry will pay only the grasshopper, upon application being made in due form.
