VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

Yesterday the Volunteers paraded at the Government Buildings, and at 11.30 were marched off under command of Captain Porter headed by the band the rear being brought up by the Cadets, led by the fifes and drummers. When within three quarters of a mile of the Hapera, they were advanced m skirmishing order driving before them the headquarters detachment, who were opposing on the defensive, and who eventually took up a position on a clump of willows. The town detachment after expending a quantity of ammunition, charged down m gallant style, and the sham fight ended. After a few movements had been gone through by the combined corps, an adjournment was held for luncheon. The members then took part m a few sports, such as running, walking, and the tug of war, the country members proving victorious m the latter. The corps was again paraded and put through a few movements by Captain Porter. Three cheers being called for the head-quarters detachment and three for the town detachment, the corps then marched for their respective parade grounds, the band leading the town men who, when arriving near home, expended a few rounds of ammunition m skirmishing order and m volleys. They were then marched into town and dia-

missed m front of the Masonic Hotel, where, at the invitation of Captain Porter, refreshments were partaken of. The band throughout the day gave great satisfaction, and proved the main feature of attraction, and Captain Porter, with a few well chosen words, thanked them for the manner m which they had behaved, and called for three cheers, which were heartily responded to.
