COMMERCIAL.
Dunedin, November 21. Business during the past week has been fairly good, {although there haa not been the same (run on leading lines that was experienced during the last week immediately preceding. Several classes of goods are becoming scarce in the market, and with light shipments on the way, values of these are improving. The principal event of the week was the sale at auction by Messrs M'Laudreas, Hepburn, and Co., of the cargo of sugar per Jasper, from Mauritius, There was a toll attendance of the trade in the room, and after a spirited competition the entire cargo was placed at the following rates : — Snowdrop crystals, £38 10s to £38 17s 6d ; finest white do, £36 12s 6d to .£3B ss ; fine do do, in large bags, £36 10s. fine do do, in small bags, £36 5s to £36 10s ; finest grey do, £34 17s 6d ; fine do do, £36 2s 6d ; finest yellow do £34 17s 6d ; fine do do, £32 2s 6d to £34 ; brewing crystals in large bags, £35 — all in bond. Spirits are firm, and for Hennessy's in case 37s is asked ; bulk has been sold at lis. Candles have advanced in consequence of English and Melbourne advices, and for De Roubaix's Bfd and 9d is asked. The local manfacturera have also advanced their price to B{d. Kerosene is alow of sale at previous quotations. Galvanised iron is not selling, but prices are firm at £26 to £27 per ton ; fencing wire is iu better demand, and stocks are much reduced ; wc quote Nos. 6 to 8, £12 10s to £14. The wheat market is quiet, with little business doing. Prime samples of milling we quote 5s ; ordinary to good, 4s 6d to 4s Od ; fowls feed, 3s 6d to 3s 9d. Oats are dull of sale, and prices have given way ld per bushel. Quotations are — milling, 2s to 2s ld j feed, Is lOd to ls lid. In barley there is nothing doing. Messrs J. H. Clongh and Co., report under date, Melbourne November sth, as follows : This market shows little animation and there is only a moderate business to report. Flour has had a slight inquiry and a few lines have been placed at from £12 15s to £13 per ton. Wheat continues in very small supply, which is specially the case with anything superior, medium quality has been sold at 6s, prime should be worth 6s 2d. Oats are dull of sale and no transactions of any importance have taken place. We have sold fair samples at 3s though prime should realise 3s ld to 3s 2d. Maize has had sales at 3s to 3s 6d in trade lots.
