All the civil cases m the R.M. Court were adjourned to Fri<lay, m order that the unusual long list of criminal cases may be disposed of, and the case <if Paora Tv v. Hirini, a charge fur tiieft of a saddle, was also adjourned. It is notified, l>y advertisement that Dr. W. L. Jackson has tiled a statement that he is unable to meet his euga einents with his creditors. The first meeting of the creditors will be lield on Moiiday next, the 6th October, at the Court House, Gisborne. The Trustee notifies that Mr. Alfred Walker is authorised to collect outstanding accounts m his estate, and his receipt will be a sufficient discharge. The Wanganui Herald states that the following extraordinary return is made from Manutahi on the farm of Mr. James Hamilton : — Five ewes had five lambs each, or a small flock of 25 between them. This is unprecedented as far as we know. That Sir G-eor^e Grey is the Working Mau'B Friend must by this time be beyond a'l question, seeing that the honourable gentleman himself has assured us of the fact so frequently. Such being the case, why has not hia tender regard for the working man prevented him from so acting at the last two general elections that the cost of his return to Parliament is twice that of an ordinary member? Whether from a desire to gratify.his vanity by showing: his great popularity, or m order to make assurance doubly sure, he has on each occasion placed himself m nomination for two electoral districts ; and havitij been elected for each, his compulsory reliuquisliment of one seat necessitates the expense and.'inconvenienceof an additional election. We have no doubt Sir George" Grey -i'*~<Uiifies his action to his own c msqience • but no\irjre7M<«u->«v > »v> - % ™ u< """" "'R ...o-j».-» — fessiona of regard for' the welfare of the Colony and the economical administration pf its revenues, we fail to understand. ■■' '•" ■■■■■■■-• - ; - ' ; ; Not long' ago a "gentleman made an inquiry of one of . the banks, , claimiii /. a balance which ' W believed to be'iii his favour, arising out of an account some 10 years old, and which he required should be paid to him. The result of the search was communicated to him. He j has not (says the .'• Insurance ami Banking Becord ") called to pay the amount.
