Melbourne, October 13. Nearly 200 Sandhurst gold miners have struck rather than accept a reduction from 46a to 40s per week. A gang of coiners have been arrested m Melbourne. They passed a large number of spuriouß half-crowns. Firearms were found m possession of the gang, and other indications that they contemplated taking to the road. An old criminal shot constable Monds through the thigh with a revolver because he tried to arrest him on a charge of stealing. The constable still pursued the man four miles', firing several times without effect. The criminal was not captured. ,jV ?■ New South Wales The French frigate Louis has arrived-, at Noumea with 400 convicts. '* A gang of burglars broke open a spirit store m Sydney on the Bth instant. The leader was found dead m front of his door. It is supposed that his mates murdered him. The excursion steamers Commodore and Fawn collided m Sydney Harbor. The Fawn's passengers scrambled safely on board the Commodore, except a woman who was injured by falling between the vessels.
