[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir, — Referring to the advertisement m your Saturday evening's issue, calling a public meeting for Wednesday even-, ing next, I wish to state, that had I read the notice more carefully, and seen the object for which it is convened, viz., "to decide what steps shall be taken with regard to that portion of the Newspaper Press which advocates the Repudiation policy, &c," I should not have signed it. From previous conversations with yourself and others on the subject, I was under the impression that the meeting was to have been called on much broader grounds, viz. : to decide what steps should be taken to remedy the many alarming evils contingent on the mal-administration of Native affairs from which we are suffering. I strongly deprecate the action of the so-called Repudiation party, and their recognised organ here, and think they have done much mischief, at the same i time I think the fault chiefly lies with the Government for allowing Native titles, and Native matters generally, to drift into such a hopeless state of confusion and anarchy. The object of the meeting, I think, should therefore be to put our case as strongly as possible before the Government, and endeavor to force them into taking the question up, and doing something before things get any worse. . . ■ I am, &c, , Andrew Graham. [Mr: Graham will see by our leader, and letters m this evening's issue, that a much broader view is taken of the question than that contained m the public notification, which, hurriedly written, appeared, m Saturday's issue of the Herald. — Ed.]
