WATER SUPPLY.
[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir, —Now . that the dry season has again set m, and the satisfactory solution of the water supply problem as far off as over, I would beg to suggest th» following 'plan, to the consideration of our Borough Councillors. It is to sink an artesian well m the roadway within a few feet of the one which is m full flow at Miikaraka, taking, the depth of the working well as a guide to work upon, and- thereby making certain of obtaining a supply of water. The road from Gisborne to Makaraka being public property, the Council could make use of part of it to lay tae pipes m, besides the cost of transit of material will be reduced to a mini num. It should also be borne m mind that the suburbs of Gisborne are, and will always be, pushing nearer the fountain head. The cost of boring, laying pipes, etc., can easily be ascertained, and as there is no engineering difficulty whatever m the way, I believe it would cost far less than any possible plan of obtaining water from the Waimata. — I am, &c. , Templar.
