PARLIAMENTARY.
[from ottr own correspondent.]
[By Telegraph.] Wellington, This Day. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Mr. Hall said, in reply to a question put by Mr. Johnston, that Mr. Sheehan paid out of his own pocket his expenses from Auckland to Napier, to contest the Olive seat with Mr. J. P. Ormond, though Sheehan had power to charge those expenses to the Colony. A long discussion ensued on a techninical objection raised to the petition by Joseph Newman, against the return of Dr. Wallis, and Mr. W. J. Hurst, Auckland members. The objection being that it was only one petition against two members. Eventually the matter was left to the committee to report upon. The committee on the petition against the return of Sir George Grey for Christchurch was partly appointed. At the evening sitting, Mr. Bryce made the Native Affairs Statement, in which he depicted the extravagant and uncontrolled expenditure in that department. Mr. Sheehan replied at considerable length. •Several other members spoke on the subject, and the House rose at one o'clock. The no confidence motion will be taken on Tuesday.
