VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The weekly instruction paradeß throughout the district have been fairly attended, and great progress is being made m drill. Owing to the collapse of the Rifle Corps, .the Battery has been considerably augmented by the transfer of many of the more efficient members to its ranks, and has thereby imparted a more healthy tone to the whole movement. It is to be regretted that better arrangements could not be made to clothe the Corps. The contractor, not being bound down to any stated time to complete the supply, is not turning out the uniforms with the celerity that might be expected, and consequently great dissatisfaction exists among the members who have not been fortunate enough m obtaining them, more especially the country members. It is proposed to devote Tuesday evening drills exclusively to recruits, so as to enable those more recently enrolled to attain the proficiency of the elder members-; but they must bear m mind that it is -very essential that they attend regularly, for until they have obtained sufficient proficiency m their work, they will not be allowed to faili n with the Battery on Inspection Parades, so that the introduction of novices among the ranks of the betterdrilled -portion may not impair the general effect of the movements, as was the case last month. No word has yet been received by Mr. Daly with respect to the cadets, and the youngsters are consequently anxiously waiting to find whether the Government will accept their services. The next inspection parades take place at Shepherd's Hall, on Tuesday, the 28th instant, and at the Makaraka Hall on Wednesday, the 29th.
