[from our own correspondent.] NAPIER. This Day. Three questions respecting the street levels were submitted to a poll of the ratepayers yesterday. One was a plan of Mr. Napier Bell, for drainage which would not involve raising the levels of the streets. The second was a plan of the Municpal Engineer, involving the raising of the streets eight inches. The third was a Municipal plan for raising the street levels seventeen inches. The ratepayers decided by a large majority for Mr. Napier Bell's plan, as either of the other two would occasion a heavy loss and inconvenience to owners of property. AUCKLAND. This Day. The Mayor has convened a public meeting respecting the Minister of Marine case. The Chamber of Commerce yesterday passed a resolution calling upon Auckland representatives to use all their influence m the present crisis to obtain justice for Auckland and not to pledge themselves to any Ministry until the injustice be partially removed by placing a sum upon the estimates's for Public Works urgently required m Auckland. Such sum, if not expended within the financial year, to be reserved solely for such works. The Supreme Court granted an order at the instance of the Phoenix Insurance Company, to call upon Thomas Mabin to render all accounts of all monies received for the company, and to produce all bills, books, etc., relating thereto. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. In the libel case, Barker against the Lyttelton Times, claiming £3000 damages. A verdict for £5 damages was returned. DUNEDIN. This Day. After Waters was acquitted of mur-der the Crown Prosecutor entered a nolle prosequi on the charge of arson. GRAHAMSTOWN. This Day. About 30 Ohinemuri volunteers have been placed on pay by the Defence Minister six weeks a^o, and have as yet received no remuneration, and there is i much grumbling m consequence. They are drilled three times per day, and cannot attend their farms. Mr. Mackay will be here on Saturday. It is rumored Government do not wish to take steps that might precipitate a war till after the floating of the loan. The Thames hematite paint is a great success, the manufacturer receiving numbers of orders. He is also making knife polish from Byproducts.
