[PROM OtJR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] /WELLINGTON. ■ This Day. The Maoris charged with riot at Gisborne were found guilty of a common assault. Pina, who was inadvertently omitted to be arraigned, surrendered, and pleaded guilty to a common assault. The Crown Prosecutor said the Government was willing the prisoners be simply bound over to keep the peace. His Honor consented, and sentenced them to one day's imprisonment, to date from commencement of sittings, and each to enter into his own rocognisances of £100, with one surety m £50. Wi Pere became surety. Mr. Henry Had field, son of Bishop Hadfield, has been appointed additional Native Interpreter m the House. DUNEDIN. This Day. At half-past twelve last night, the Jury brought m a verdict acquitting Waters of the charge of murder.
