NAPIER. This Day. There is a project on foot here to run another evening p-ipar in the Liberal interest, in succession to the Star, that was run during the elections. WELLINGTON. This D.ir. Owing to an informality in the sale of the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company's vessels, they were again submitted to auction yesterday. The Hon. John Martin was the purchaser for £15,000. AUCKLAND. This Day. There is nothing of importance from the Thames, except that the natives are erecting two pahs in strategic positions. Some of the Upper Thames settlers contemplate quitting their holdings. It is Btated the abortive enquiries and missions to the natives have cost already more than £3,000.
GRAHAMSTOWN. This Day. The supply of arms sent from here to out settlers about VVaitoa arrived safely. OHRISTOHURCH. This Day. Efforts are being made to establish a paper at Malveru. The lambing season haviug commenced in the Mayfield district a number of large wild cats have made their appear* ance. ' Two were killed recently, one being three feet in length, and several young lambs were seen partly eaten. An agent, named Duckworth, driving on Saturday- night on the Sunnier road, was accosted by* a man on horseback, who presented a pistol at Duckworth's head, and demanded his money or his life. Duckworth whipped up his horse and drove away, pursued by the highwayman, but the latter could not overtake Duckworth. The matter haß been placed in the hands of the police.' KUMARA. This Day. A fatal accident occurred at Larriken's Terrace yesterday. Three men named Cochrane, Niven, and Oakey,were putting in a new chamber when the shaft collapsed, burying all three. A number of miners set to work in relays, and got Cochrane out not much injured, and Niveu had got into an old drive and was safe, though up to a late hour last night •was not released. Oakey was quite dead.
