BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held m the Borough Chambers, last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor, (m the chair), Councillors Clayton, Ward, Adair, and Morgan. Messrs J. Townley, F. J. Piesse, and E. K. Brown, the newly-elected Councillors were introduced, made the necessary declaration, and took their seats. Telegram. From Town Clerk, Wanganui, stating earth closet system not m force. Rates. Resolved— That the Town Clerk give public notice that all rates must be paid by the end of September or legal steps will be taken to recover. Planting Trees. It was moved by Councillor Piesse, seconded by Councillor Clayton, " That all trees planted on roadways within the Borough shall be 16 feet from the building line f in the wide streets, and 12 feet m the narrow streets, and shall only beplanted m terms of this resolution." Motion carried. Lowe Street. Councillor Adair drew attention to the state of Lowe-street. The engineer was instructed to proceed, with it after doing Peel-street. Our Local Candidate. Resolved— '• That a committee 'of three be appointed, to consist of His Worship the Ma/or, Councillors Townley, and Adair, to prepare memoranda of the wants of the Borough for the information of the member of the House of Representatives to bring before Parliament or the proper authorities when he goes to Wellington. Bye-laws. Proposed, seconded, and carried, — " That, a special meeting called by the Council be held on 23rd inst. for the purpose of passing bye-laws. The Council then separated.
