Slectoral Addresses. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE EAST COAST. O ENTLEMEN,— I beg to offer myself as a Candidate for the East Coast at the ensuing Election. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, G. B. MORRIS. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE EAST COAST ELECTORAL DISTRICT / 1 ENTLEMEN,— I beg to offer myv -" 1 self as a candidate to represent your interests m Parliament. From my loug residence on the Coast, I am intimately acquainted with the requirements of the electoral district, and if elected, my main object will be to secure for the district that justice m the matter of expenditure upon public works which has hitherto been withheld from us ; at the Bame time giving my assistance m passing the many important liberal measures, which must, m the next Parliament, engage the attention of the people's representatives. Should you do me the honor of electing me as your representative, I shall vote for Triennial Parliaments, Manhood Suffrage on a residental qualification to Europeans, and franchise to men of the Native race who are. enrolled on the ratepayers' rolls, or who hold individual or undivided grants of land from the Crown. I will.support a Bill for the. adjust* ment of representation, on the basis of population. Such a Bill would secure for our district an additional member, thus enabling the Bay of Plenty and Poverty Bay to send each its own representative to Parliament, which, m my opinion, should have long ago been the case. With reference to the administration of Waste Lands, I am of opinion that the present Bystem has not worked satisfactorily to the country ; 1 would, therefore, support any measure which would have for its effect the vesting of all Waste Lands m County Councils, giving those bodies the full powers vested m the present Waste Lands Boards. I approve of portions of the Waafce Lands being sold on deferred payments ! with a view of promoting the settlement of the country, having watched the operation of thiß system m the Middle Island and found it to work beneficially. All Waste Lands should be sold by public auction m the principal town, or I towns, of the county m which such lands may be situated. I shall, if elected, j endeavor to have all existing land disputes between Europeans and the Government referred to arbitration at once for final settlement, so as to £place§ the country on a sound footing, and m all cases which afterwards shall be given m favor by Government, occupiers should be remunerated for all improvements. I consider that to effectually put a stop to the present difficulties m the ! acquisition of Native Lands, the Natives should be treated as Europeans. Failing this, that the Government j should hold a pre-emptive right over all lands which have not yet passed through the Court. I shall take the earliest opportunity of personally visiting the various centres of population m the district, and more fully communicating my views.
