This Day. Mr. J. S. Shepherd announces his candidature for the Bay of Islands. At a meeting of the Waste Lands Board, yesterday, a telegram from the Government was read, requesting the withdrawal of an offer of the Tairoa Block to the Union Sash and Door Company, as it would throw a number of gum diggers out of employment. The Board agreed to this as requested. The dwelling-house of Mr. McMillan, Papatoitoi, was burnt down on Wednesday night, throught Mrs. McMillan setting a window blind on fire with a lighted candle. Mr. McMillan was away from home, and his wife was barely able to save the children, when the whole place was m flames. The house was insured m the Imperial for £200,
