This Day. The commission of inquiry into charges against Captain MoKenaie, of the Government steamer Stella, have sent m a report, whioh it is understood, exonerates him. The Governor leaves torday for Nelson, on a brief non-official visit Sir George Grey leaves for his southern trip on the 2lat, returning on the 31st, when he will immediately proceed north. Dr. Newman, has retired from the contest for the City. . At a meeting of the committee of the Liberal Association, last night, Mr. Hutchison, the Mayor, and Mr. Fisher, Hansard reporter, were selected as the Association's candidates. • A deputation waited on Sir G^ Grey,, and he promises to address a meeting on Saturday, m favor of those candidates. Mr. Sheehan is exjiiected to address the same meeting.
