STATE OF PEEL STREET.
[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sik, — The present state of Peel Street is a disgrace to our Borough Council. It would appear that the inhabitants of Peel Street never pay rates, or else their prayers are not worthy of being noticed. Some two months ago, a petition was presented by the Peel Street ratepayers, praying that the six chaitia of street near the river be formed only, but the Borough never even showed them respect enough to reply to the petition when in Council. Yet they collect revenue to the amount of about £120 a year from those verj persons whom they take no notice of ; although about £15 would pay for all that is asked for by them. Now, strange that a few lines from one individual in a more remote part of the town than Peel Street, causes the Council to at once attend to his request. Again, they can, without even being asked, form, drain, and pipe some of the back streets, which are almost solely used by one firm. Had there been a Turanganui Hotel in Peel Street, it would have been formed long before now. — I am, &c, Ratepayer.
