NATIVE MOVEMENTS.

Two well-known members of old Tukakino's tribe at Komata settlement, near Ohiuemuri, visited Paeroa on Tuesday for the purpose ..of buying gunpowder, but all to whom they applied refused to supply them. The Sergeant of- Police stationed m the township thought they wanted it for pig-sliooting, and got men to enquire how much they wanted j they said they would take 3 or 4 cwt. if they could get it, for which they would give '40s a pound. Old Tukakino is a red-hot kinyite, and should war be proclaimed at Taranaki, he and his tribe will* it is thought, make a descent on Ohiuemuri Township. . : All the disaffected natives on the Waikato frontier have cleared out for Taranaki ' : : r i IVom some smoke seen m it is thought that a stronghold is being . constructed at the back- of the Pariiiaka, neav to the mouu, taiu.

Natives report that the tunnel is being driven from Parihaka to- the face of a river-cliff, as a means of retreat. The Bay of Plenty Times has the following m its issue of Thursday. last :— "We have been informed on good authority that some natives from the settlement at Rereatekahia, Katikati, went to the Block House at Aongatete, and, after asking Mrs Earl where the other members of the house were, warned her that they must all v clear out." The natives also said they were acting under instructions from the King, nnd that the whole of the land m that district would belong to them m six months' time. After leaving tLe Block House, they visited Mr George Hunter, and threatened him m similar manner. We understand these natives have only returned from the- King Oouutry, where they had been staying for some months." r
