DUNEDIN.
This Day. A deputation representing the electors of Dunedin waited on the Hon. Mr. Stout yesterday, asking him to reconsider his decision to retire from political life. He replied that when lie." entered! Parliament he intended to retire in 1877 ; but was induced by his friends to remain. His business now had increased so much, much that he did not feel justified in continuing to burden his partner. He felt loth to leave the Ministry, because he knew an attack upon them was impending. Finally he.consented to consider the matter over, and give a reply by Monday next. The impression is that he will be induced to remain if his colleagues can arrange to relieve hjm of part of his work. A circumstance Kns come to light that, raises suspicions with regard to the fire at the Aiheneaum. It has been discovered that the assitant Cuunock, Committed • defalcations of about one hundred and seven pounds.
