NOT WRONG NOTWITHSTANDING.
[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sib, — There exists a trite old adage that runs somewhat thus, " Nemo mortalis omnibus horis sapit ;" and I know of no person to whom this more pertinently applies than the writer of " Enquirer " m your last night's issue. I will take his letter seriatim. What have you to do with any authority the Land may work under 1 Perhaps clever " Enquirer" can enlighten. It is a very great pity that people like " Enquirer " do not more thoroughly "read, mark, learn and inwardly digest " their subject matter before indulging m that insane mania of " cacoetlws scribendi " so inherent m small minds like " Enquirer's" It seems to me that the Band have a perfect right to hold a Ball when they like, and if they choose to call it Queen's Birthday Ball, although held a month after the proper date, they can do so —it being simply given m commemoration. As to Englishmen, &c, had " Enquirer " taken the trouble to examine his Prayer-book, he would have seen that the 20th is set apart for special services m the Church, and that day is always held as a holiday m that old home of ours (I do not know where he came from) for such celebration. The Band, therefore, took that day and date, and give the Ball m commemoration of Her Majesty's Accession and Coronation ; but, to make a short heading, gave the date of the one day, and the distinguishing title (if I may so term it) of the other. I must apologise both for occupying your space, and for persecuting your readers by answering such twaddle as that emanating from "Enquirer," and promise that if you will insert this, I will, for the future, remain retioent on this subject.— l am, &c M Bandsman.
