A football player named Sunderlands, who arrived in Wellington recently from melbourne, has had his passage paid back and a good situation obtained for him by the , Geelong Football Club, in order to secure his service as a player. A splendid sample of Wairoa grown wheat has been forwarded to Napier for transmission to the Sydney Exhibition. The wheat thus sent is from a crop grown by Mr Gimmell. Smoking among juveniles is on the increase not only in the Colonies but in England where it is attracting some attention, and suggestions have been made that the.Legslature should interfere in the matter. The Hon John Bright writes on the subject ; — I do not think a law to suppress juvenile tobacco smoking would receive support in the House of Commons. We have rather such too many laws already, and I prefer to leave such evils to parental supervision, and to public opinion, and the effects of a better education among the working 'olfltsseß." . '
