Rewi repelled the idea of being, a hief, and after rapidly referring to his (resent attitude, he denied he supported iir George Grey m consequence of this, le denied that he had been bribed by Jir George Grey, but said he was deermined to uphold him, having Bhaken ands with him now, though an enemy f his once. : , ■ ; . No meeting was held at Te Kopua on aturday. After breakfast, a message ro ught from Tawhiao to the effect that le food was running short and the atives had to go formore, and requesting ir George Grey to remain.
