The young man was removed to the Hospital, where four fingers on the left hand were amputated, leaving the thumb. The preliminaries for a mile running match between Brown of Auckland, and O'Connell, of Timaru, for £50 a side, has been arranged to take place on Queen's Birthday, m the Domain cricket ground.
