AUCKLAND.
This Day. Goodfellow, the Australian Champion, who leaves for America by the outgoing mail steamer, intends on his return bringing out a team of footballers to the Colony, and will make a tour through the Colonies, playing all football clubs that will compete. A young man named Edward Sergeant met with a painful accident at the Auckland. Timber Company's mill, Newton, yesterday. Sergeant was working at a sash machine, when his left hond slipped m amongst the knives, and was much mutilated. The young man was removed to the Hospital, where four fingers on the left hand were amputated, leaving the thumb. The preliminaries for a mile running match between Brown of Auckland, and O'Connell, of Timaru, for £50 a side, has been arranged to take place on Queen's Birthday, m the Domain cricket ground.
