In the Commons to-day, the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, ' m replying to a question, stated that a Manchester firm had despatched ammunition to Mozambique, but the British Government have taken steps to prevent the same reaching the Zulus. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to another question, said the British Government was disposed to recommend to the Sultan an Englishman to administer the finances of Turkey if one was asked for. Bank rate 2£ per cent. Bank reserve £19,312,500. Proportion of reserve to liabilities 50 per cent. A despatch by the Marquis Salisbury, dated January 26th, has been published. It states that the action of the Russian officials m Bulgaria and Roumelia has been contrary to the Treaty of Berlin, and has aggravated the difficulties of the recent situation. The depatch urges immediate separation of Bulgaria and Roumelia. An important discovery has been made at Middlesboro', which greatly reduces the cost of producing steel.
