CHRISTCHURCH,

This Day. At twenty minutes past 3 on Saturday morning, a five-roomed house m Panama Road, was found to be on fireThree boxes, containing coal and rubbish, were piled up against the gable end, which had been smeared with kerosene as high as a man could reach. The flames were put out before they had gained a good hold. An enquiry will of course be held into what appears to be an act of incendiarism. There was an alarm of fire early on Saturday morning, and Booth's large saw-mills near the centre of the town was found to be on fire. A few buckets of water removed the danger, and averted a very large fire. The origin is unknown at present, and hard to account for, as no fire was ever used near where the flames broke out.
