MEDICAL COMFORTS, AND WHAT BECOME OF THEM.

A West Coast paper, commenting on the management of the Charleston District Hospital, says : — ". Another discussion was entered into re the great cost of maintaining the institution, some going so far as to say that instead of a house for invalids it was apparent, by the bills received, that the placa was being converted into a grand eating house for not only ' gastronomists' but more especially for ' gastrophilists' to whom fricassees, stews, sauces that tickle the palate, and Liebeg'g quintessence of beef, together with potatoes, milk and bread, were dearer to their hearts then all other momentary or fluctuating pleasure ; in fact it was the opinion of many of the committee that there must have been camped in the Hospital domain during the preceding month, some who have made and still made gods of their bellies. To curtail our report, it was ananged that the special committee immediately swoop down and feel the pulses of all living in the Hospital (the Warder included) and if they are able to bear it they are immediately to be placed on low diet ; in the case of the Warder it is inevitable that a change of diet will not be found dangerous, but rather aid him in becoming convalescent. " The Charleston Hospital must be rather an enviable place to live in.
