AUCKLAND.
This Day. It is reported that H. B. Sterndale has died at San Francisco. It will be remembered that Sterndale was for a long time intimately acquainted With trade in the South Sea Islands, and it was from him that Sir Julius Vogel obtained most of his information when hia South Sea Island scheme was proposed a few 3 ears ago. He was a man of good family and possessed great mental ability and force of character, but somewhat wild. He was uncle to Lord Ardmillan of the Court Sessions of Edinburgh, and married to a lady / whose mother, at present is resdiing in, Napier.
