THE UNION S.S. COMPANY.

The Uuion Steam Shipping Company, by the aid of their large iucreased fleet of ocean steamers, have now made such changes as cannot but be beneficial to the Colony. Independent of the many fine steam-ships owned by the Company, these have been increased by the Aravrata, Ringarooma, Albion ami Tararua. On the the 14th, 20th, and 26th of this month, and on the 2nd of February, one or other of the company's newly purchased steamers will leave Wellington for Melbourne and Hobart Town. On the 16th instant the steamer Wakatipu will steam from Wellington to Sydney ; and on February 2nd, tue favourite steamer Rotorua will leave Gisborne for Sydney direct. The Hawea, Capt. Kenuedy will leave for Napier and Southern Ports, on VV ednesday next, at 5 p.m. Tae Wanaka,Capt. McGillivray, will leave for Tauraugaaud Auckland, on Wednesday morning next.. The s.s. Pretty Jane may be expected to arrive here to-night. -*.«„• The wool ships at Napier are fast fillin;; up, and will probably get away about the end of this month, The Glenlora has over 1,200 bales on board, and the Avona about MOO. „ .. . From an English paper we gather that the steampship Great Eastern has been purchased by a company, who intend to put her m the cattle trade between Texas ami London. She is now being fitted out, and •will have new engines and boilers fixed ai a cost of £10,000. It is estimated she will carry 2000 head of cattle and 3000 sheep m a trip. Refrigerators will be fitted for carrying fresh beef.
