MENINGITIS OUTBREAK

THE AFFECTED AREA WARNING TO TEACHERS The decision of the Department of Health to consider the Bay of Islands district as an affected area in view of the definite cases of meningitis was conveyed to the Auckland Education Board at. its meeting last week. The secretary, Mr. D. W. Dunlop, Said the department advised that Training College students should not be allowed to enter the district during the holidays. It had also advised against teachers going into the area in view of the possibility of a spread of meningitis, in which ease isolation would 'follow and teachers would be unable to return following the holidays. It was recognised, of course, that teachers had the right' as civilians to travel to the area if they so desired, but such a procedure was inadvisable. The Wanganui Education Board has advised teachers against going into the infected area.
