METHODIST YM.B.C. RESOLUTION
SELFISH ATTITUDE Ml?. SAVAGE’S COMMENT Last week the Prime Minister commented upon the resolutions passed by the Methodist Bible Class Convention. “In plain English, that means that the 'conference suggests that no action ■ in respect to l the war should be taken at all,” Mr. Savage remarked. What was the country expected to do? The war was being fought to determine whether the British Empire shoutd have a life worth living or , become part and parcel of Germany, with no .right to govern. It was a selfish attitude that would not. stand investigation for live minutes. THE BESOLUTION The following is the text , of. the resolution carried at the annual convention of the Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class movement held in Wellington . ' “‘This convention recommends to its members and all the nembers of the Christian Church who believe that all war, .'including the one in wlnca our nation is at present engaged, is, contrary to the spirit and teaching of Jesus Christ our Lord, and that the way of the Cross is the only method of conquering evil: (a) To follow that way unswervingly, refusing enlistment, preparations for war, and all noncombatant service under military control, aiid (b) to endeavour, by the Grace of God, to understand and serve all men irrespective of nationality, and to persuade thorn that the only hope for the individual .and for the world lies in a following of the teaching and example of Jesus.”
