LAWN TENNIS

CLOSING OF SEASON The local Lawn Tennis season was brought to lat close on Saturday, when a Yankee Tournament was held, the 'winners being Mrs. Boswell and Mr. J. Campbell, who were presented with trophies kindly donated by the President. The club captain, Mr. Francis, was also presented with a trophy in recognition cif his servi es to the club. Before the tournament commenced, the President, Mr. T. E. Roberts, in a brief and happy speech, expressed pleasure at seeing so many members present, in spite of the state of the weather. He referred to the fact that the majority of the competitions wore won during the season by the older and more experienced players, which apparently went to show that the younger players were lacking in ability. However, this would probably be remedied by careful practice, and a study of the more experienced player's play. The club was indebted to the Vice-President, Mr. H. Boswell, who had supervised the club's affairs, and had carried through a most successful tournament. Thanks were also due to the Club captain, Mr. G. R. Francis, for his efforts on behalf of the club during the season, and to all who had contributed to make the season a success, not forgetting Mr. Whitehead, whose valuable help freely given at all times was greatly appreciated. (Applause) . The following were the winners of the various trophies. HANDICAPS: Ladies’ Singles: Miss M. Taylor, (Mrs. Whitehead’s trophy). Ladies' Doubles: Mas. Roberts and Mrs. Whitehead.
