Mrs. Rankin, who has been a resident of Waverley for the last .12 years, left for Wellington by the express on Saturday. Airs, Rankin will be much missed by her numerous customers and friends.
In the bowling match between AVaverley and AA T anganui East, played on the local green on Saturday afternoon, the AVaverley team was beaten by 20 points on the clay’s play.
On Saturday evening the committee of the A. and P, Society met to make final arrangements for the annual show, which is to be held on Alarch 17, and also to consider extending the time for the closing of the entries. There was a good attendance at the meeting, and given a fine day, the .1932 show' should prove to be a successful one.
A mild sensation was caused locally last week when it became known that the police had not succeeded in capturing the motor mechanic, Bennett, who recently escaped from the Hautu prison camp with a mate named Allen. In spite of a sharp look out that was kept by all the police in the district, who were assisted by members of the Legion of Frontiersmen, the escapee managed to slip through their fingers and reach AA'anganui on Saturday, and from latest reports is still at large.
Airs. Aluir, Hawera, is paying a short visit to AVaverley, and is the guest of Airs. AAA J. Aluir.
Airs. Alitcalfc returned to AVaverley, after having Spent some days in AVelliugtou.
