PATEA AND DISTRICT PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ A.A.A.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Patca and District Public Schools' A.A.A. was held on Saturday, Mr. W. T. Armstrong presiding. Messrs. Aker, Tong, Hamblyn, Hurley, Hemingway, Hunt, and Wither (lion, secretary) were also present.
Mr. Hemingway reported that a cup had been provided by the Patca Seaside Improvement Society for competition annually amongst children in the association’s district. The cup was at present being engraved. If the association could possibly manage it, the Seaside Improvement Society would be glad to see the cup competed for during the present summer. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to tender the hearty thanks of the association to the society for its generous action in donating the cup. It was pleasing to note that outside institutions took so keen an interest in the association’s work. Swimming probably more than any other sport helped to create a healthy mind and a healthy "body.
Mr. Wither, in seconding the motion, said ho thought it only fair that the cup should be competed for at the Beach Improvement Society’s annual sports, and that the association arrange for the competition, receive entries, make rules, etc. The chairman said he would embody Mr. Wither’s suggestion in his resolution.
The resolution, as amended, was then put and carried unanimously, Mr. Hurley stressing the point that the cup should be competed for each year by pupils who had never won a swimming race.
A letter was read from Mr. Browning, Manaia, stating that the Herbert Smith Trust would probably be willing to offer cups for. competition amongst pupils in the association’s district if they were applied for. It was unanimously resolved on the motion of Mr. Hemingway, seconded by Mr. Tong, that application be made for cups for the championships.
■The chairman said he would be happy to donate a shield for the rounders
