BIRDS RETURN TO HAWKE’S BAY
A possible indication that conditions in the Hawke's Hay earthquake area arc getting bark to normal, and that the district is not 1 lirealenrd in the immediate future will tremors of any magnitude, is given by the return of ganneis and other members of the feathered (lock to the stricken districts. On the other hand, however, hundreds of canaries which were released when the rush from Napier to safety was made, have disappeared. Many ranaries were brought away by rescue workers at Xapier and Hastings and this accounts for (he disappearance of some. Those, left behind, used to cage life, are not likely to have survived the depredations of hungry cals.
