BUTTER PRICES MAY RISE
EXTENSION OF THE, DEMAND. EE KOBEAX OETI’ET S.MAEE. Australian and New Zealand butter s approaching two-thirds of Britain's butter imports from all sources. Im (oris from Denmark amount to only ibout Jive-fourteenths of that from vimtralia and New Zealand, the E,, imports of which increased 7S3ocwt. •ompared with January last year, whereas the imports from all other •iiiives have fallen by -Kt.OOUcwt. 'Tin 1 lecrcasc of stocks held in cold stor age, compared with last year, shows hat consumption has increased coniderablw.
Tooley Etreet representatives say hat nearly all the European countries are on the smallest production of butter. and considerable quantities have been shipped to them from the Eugish market, also from Ireland. The aipplies of Australian butter are inefficient for all demands and have unprecedontly forced nip the values of New Zealand butter, while the con -umption and prices of butter are likely to continue to have an upward leniency. The market for Australian and New Zealand cheese is disappointing. There is a growing demand for fancy cheese. Tooley Street experts are of opinion 'hat the weapon to fight this competi--nr is high quality. The public will ureter cheese in the original state if Die quality is right. Alternative foods arch as bacon and fish arc very cheap, estricting the consumption of cheese.
