DISMISSALS FROM RAILWAY

RATIONING PLAN DISAPPROVED

A mass meeting of employees at the Hillside railway workshops passed a resolution disapproving tho .Minister's suggestion of rationed work sis being class taxation, and urging him to cancel nil dismissal notices until the Railway Commission’s report is available. •The mooting expressed the opinion that the pruning knife should have been first applied to the highly paid officials, whom they alleged to be responsible for the present conditions. The meeting directed attention to the many useless positions created under the reorganisation scheme, urging also the suspension of the Railways Magazine, which is costing nearly £BOOO annually. Arrangements have been made for the Royal Commission investigating the position of tho railways to visit Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The dates of arrival will be notified in advance to expedite matters.
