BATE A V. TOKOMARL. The Tutea team visited Tokomaru recently and had a most enjoyable du\ in spite of the fact that victory rested with their opponents. The mate a j.-: always regarded by the local men ao •‘the match of the season," the loan, being always heaitily welcomed by the Tokomaru men and entertained righ. royally. The recent match proved no exception to the rule, the team return ing home delighted with their day in .the sunshine. The local men won the toss and elected to bat, T, Thompson, jun., and K. -Sewell facing the bowling of Paterson, and Jones. Both batsmen played stylish cricket and appeared likely to be in all day, until Paterson beat Thomxisou with a good length ball. Paterson later followed up his success by taking two wickets with successive bails, but in spite of this fact the home team ran up a score of 225, Currie, the captain, playing a fine innings of 90 not out. Haddow topped the bowling averages with one wicket for one run Paten followed, but with the exception of Paterson, no batsman reached double figures, the fielding and. bowling being particularly good, Thompson's ca£ah high up at arm's length in the slips, which dismissed Hemingway, being a feature of the day. On following on Patca did much better, Grant, Hamel, and Paterson hitting freely, tr score at the close of play being 142 for two wickets. The following were the scores:- — TOKOMARU. T.
