CUSHION EASILY MADE.
Most of the new cushions to-day are covered. with fadeless curtain fabrics, the artificial silk taffetas, satius, and repps standing out. They can be had in such a vast range of colours and are so rich looking, with the lovely sheen which only artificial silk can have. The slight admixture' of cotton prevents the fabric from being too ostentations, and also gives a Ivard wearing quality which real silk usually lacks. It used to be necessary, for the cushion-maker to create all her own forms, and fill them either with flock, vegetable down, or feathers; a mess’y and tedious process. But this labour is now saved, for she can buy cushions of almost any shape with calico foundations, all ready for covering. One very attractive new form is the kidney-shaped cushion. This looks splendid covered in velveteen with a heavy cluster of artificial fruits by way of trimming. The fruits are circles of silk stuffed with wadding, gathered np and then fashioned with a few pinches and stitches into the form of apples, oranges, plums, grapes, and so on. Any number of harmonising shades can be blended.
