PATEA AND DISTRICT SCOTTISH SOCIETY

A SUCCESSFUL EVENING. The popularity of the local Scottish Society’s concerts was shown by tho excellent audience that assembled in the Whcmiakura Hall last night, when a splendid concert programme was rendered, among those taking part being the following: Mesdamcs Fraser and McDonald, Misses Leita and Janet Sutherland, Messrs. Simpson (Hawera), Reid, Kettles, Naismith, Mawhinncy, Langslow, and Masters L. and S. Pauling. A Highland dance was given by Misses Finlayson, Fairweathcr, and Crompton. In addition, a humorous sketch, “The Proof of the Puddin,” was given by Alton members of the society, the various parts being well taken and causing a great deal of merriment. A feature of the evening was tho “haggis,” played in in traditional style, and Mr. Simpson’s rendering of the “Ode” was excellent. After the concert the floor was cleared for dancing, a most enjoyable time being spent, one and all voting the evening to be one of the happiest spent for some time. Needless to say, the. next concert will be eagerly looked forward to.
