During her stay in Waverley ,Miss Alclvec was the guest of the Kcv. and Airs. Stuart, The Manse.-' Air. Eamesj who has been seriously ill with influenza, is recovering, and will soon be .about again. Ou Tuesday evening Mr. Ell’s youngsou set his trap for an oppossom and to his surprise it was a. kiwi he had caught. It was a fine specimen,, with a beak over five inches long and a very furry body. .The kiwi is rarely soon now, and is a novelty in the War verloy district. A large kiwi egg was found near the bush, but nothing was scon of the baby, as these birds appear only at night and in the early hours of the morning, unless in the dense bush. The bird was unhurt, and Air. Ell intends to release it.
On Wednesday afternoon . the members of tho Presbyterian Women’s Mission Union and friends met in St. Andrew’s Hall to welcome Miss McEcc, travelling secretary for the union, wno was paying her annual visit to Waverley. Mrs. Stuart, president, was in the chair, and introduced the speaker, rvho delivered a very interesting address, giving a short account of . the great work done by the missionaries in the New Hebrides from tho commencement. Miss McKee, who has been in the work for a number of is.an excellent speaker, and those present felt that they had been greatly privileged. At the close of the address Mrs. Wall, on ■behalf of those present, thanked the speaker, after which a cup of tea was handed round, giving time for social conversation. The meeting then closed with the singing of a missionary hymn, Mrs. G. McGregor presiding at the organ.
