THE COMING ELECTIONS
THE PATEA SEAT. There is not likely to bo any scarcity of candidates throughout the Dominion at the general election, ; but there are some electorates in which it is not yet decided who will run against the sitting Reform member. Patca is one of them (says the Parliamentary correspondent of the 'Eltham Argus’). It is understood that a diligent search is being made for 1 a suitable candidate to unfurl the flag of the United Political Party in the Patea electorate. There are not many people to be found who arc inclined to enter upon a contest where defeat is a foregone conclusion, and that appears to be the certain fate of the candidate who attempts to oust Mr. H. G. Dickie. By his cheerful disposition, his active attention to his constituents, and his friendly demeanour to supporters and opponents alike, he has "dug himself dn" to their affections and it will take a "(big Bertha" to blow him out. The new cutting up of the electorate suits him quite well and seems to have strengthened his .position. He is at present amongst the certainties elcction. CANDIDATE FOR TAUMARUNUL Mr. J. Georgetti, a well known member of the Wellington Land Board announced himself as a candidate for the Waimariao seat as an Independent.
