English League tour
DEFEAT OF SOUTH AUCKLAND,
The team of English League football players opened their New* Zealand tour at Taupiri, when they defeated South Auckland by 31 points to 5. The combination of the visitors and their solid defence won them the game. One Englishman was "ordered off and one retired injured during the second spell.

AUCKLAND TEAM DEFEATED,
Almost perfect weather prevailed for the Rugby representative game between Auckland and Wairarapa, the Ranfurly Shield which provided a largo attendance of onlookers ivitU the best display of the code seen this season, at Master-ton. Wairarapa won after a keen contest iby 14 to 13.

OKAIAWA TO MEET STRATFORD
Very keen interest is being evinced by football enthusiasts throughout the province in the meeting of Okaiawtq the southern premiers, and Stratford, the northern winners, for the provincial championship of Taranaki. The match, which takes place at Elthaua to-morrow (Saturday) at 2.30 p.m., promises to be a titanic struggle in keeping with the previous meetings between the two teams. Mr. G. Hooker has been appointed referee. RUGBY PREMIERSHIP. Although the Ranfurly Shield was not at stake on Wednesday, remarked an Auckland writer, the Rugby premiership of New Zealand would virtually be decided by the meeting of Wairarapiu and Auckland. Taranaki has not been beaten so far this year, and should have a say in the Rugby premiership of New Zealand.
