ANNUAL MEETING,

The annual meeting of the Manutahi Dairy Company was hold on Wednesday,. Mr. Tonks presiding. The annual report read as follows: In presenting the IBth annual report of the directors for your consideration wo do so trusting the position as dis- - closed by the balance-sheet will meet with your approval. Pounds of Butter-fat: 309,588.3 (333,284.5). Pounds Cheese; 985,737 (894,432). Pounds Milk to Pound Cheese: 9.429 (9.597). ; Pounds Cheese to Pound 2.50 (2.68). Cheese Test: 3.97 (3.88). Weight Cheese: 440 tons 3cwt Oqr 11b (399 tons Ocwt Oqr). ' BUTTEE-MAKING. Pounds Milk; 108,198 (130,525). Pounds Fat: 6727.2 (5401). Pounds Butter: 8038 (((498). Test; 3.999 (4.00), Over-run: 19.488 (18.99). Creamery: 3 tons llewt 2qr 101 b (2 tons IScwt 2qr), Whey Butter: 7 tons 3cwt Iqr 211 b (5 tons ISciwt 3qr 161 b). TOTAL FOE SEASON. Pounds Milk: 9,463,132 (8,720,087), increase 742,445. Butter-fat: 376,b15.5 (338,745.5), increase 37,670. | Avcfage Test: 3.977 (3.895). Iu moving the adoption of the report cli3 chairman said the season had been a record one. They had manufactured 440 tons of cheese, or 400 tons if the butter-fat were converted into cheese. The last record season had been in 1916, -when. 418 tons had been manufac- 1 cured. The pay-out had been small, jnly Ik 3d having been paid out to date, but a further sum of £2375 Was available for distribution in addition to the surplus they expected froiu Heme. The final pay-out, he thought, would bring the total up to Is 4d or Is 4id. The speaker strongly urged the necessity for herd testing, and suggested that suppliers should link up with others who were arranging to have choir herds tested. During the year a pasteuriser had been installed in tho factory and a concrete water tank had been built. To meet this expense £IOOO had been borrowed from tho bank to be paid back lit the rate of £3OO per year, and already £3OO had been paid off this amount. The company had also installed a petrol pump at the faetory at a small cost, and it had been much appreciated by suppliers. In conclusion, the chairman paid a warm tribute to the work of the manager, Mr. C. McQueen, and staff, and stated that they were more than fortunate in retaining 2ylr. McQueen's services. He had now been with them 17 years, and he did not think they could find a better manager in New Zealand. The resolution was seconded by Mr. McDonald and carried unanimously. The election of officers resulted in the re-eleclion of the two retiring directors, Messrs. E. S. Scowu and A. Wills, while Mr. Cornwall replaced Mr. S. Wills, who is leaving the district. Sir. J. D. G. Thomson was re-elected auditor at the remuneration of £l2 12s.

In reply to Mr. Hamilton, the chairman said the Kakaramca Company was endeavouring to form a group for herd testing with Whenuakura, and he thought the Manutahi Company should inquire into this proposition. He pointed out that his experience of over 10 years whs that he had 23 per cent, replacements without testing, and he asked what percentage there would bo if the herd were tested. A Voice: Over 50 per cent. The chairman, said the directors would inquire into this- matter immediately since it was wise to come to seme decision as soon as possible before the season was too'far advanced. The chairman r s honorarium was fixed at the same figure as last year, viz., £SO. On the motion of Mr. Wills a vote of thanks was accorded the manager and staff.
