THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY
A SET BACK FOR MANAIA The Hon, J. 6. Coates, Miinster for Public Works, sent the following reply to the Manaia Town Board as the result of a resolution forwarded by the Beard recently;,— ' ‘ In answer to yours of the 25th ult., regarding the completion of the railway at Manaia, I wish to draw your attention to the fact that while I was visiting Taranaki in June last, a deputation waited on me at Manaia, and one of the members of that deputation stated that it was unlikely that the produce from the factory would be sent by rail; it would still be carried by motor. In these circumstances it would hardly be wise for the Government to proceed with the construction of the railway at the - present time.''—J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Works.
