Mr and Mrs C. Fitzwatcr, of Thames, are at present visiting Patea. Warm tribute to the memory of the late Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M., was paid by members of the Bench and Bar at the Auckland Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Mr W. C. MacGregor, SolicitorGeneral, has been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court. The Hon. the Minister of Education, aco mpanied by Mr J, R. Corrigan, M.P., will pay a visit to the Patea School on Wednesday next at 11.30 a.m. Miss C. E .Roberts, B.Sc. (London), who has been appointed to the staff of the local District High School, arrived in Patea by the mail train on Wednesday . Dr Elizabeth Gunn lifts been ap pointed the representative of the Department of Health at the tail'd Australasian Conference of School Medical Officers of Health, to bo held in Melbourne in November next.

The death took place at Tamworth, Australia, recently, of Mr Arthur F. Maitland, brother of Mrs T. Moss, of Egmont Street, Patca. The deceased saw service during the Great War, leasing Australia with the 4th Brigade, 13th Battalion, known as the “Fighting 13th. ’’ After a time he was detached; and went to Headquarters Staff, later rejoining his regiment in France, where be was badly gassed. Ho is survived by a widow and infant child, for wnom uic deepest sympathy will be felt

Deep and genuine regret was feltthroughout the town when it became known that Mr .1. 0. Huibert had passed away at an early hour on Wednesday morning. The nows of his death came as a shock to many, an he was about until a few days ago. The deceased, who was of a particularly bright and genial disposition, was a general favourite with all. Some three years ago he married Miss Jesse Myles, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Myles, of Gloucester Street, by whom he is survived, together with an infant sen. The deepest sympathy will be felt for the relatives in their bereavement.
