WAVERLEY SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Monday evening. Mr TI. Middleton presiding. Mrs Musters and Messrs W. 11. Bhipton, W. Wicks, B. Bifri’Ow, C. H. Christensen, W, A. .Brown were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were road end confirmed. A letter was'received from the Methodist Church asking the committee to make an offer for the church paddock. The letter was received. The headmaster’s report was read. It included rhe following recommendations: — That the last quarter should not be counted for the attendance aggregate, in view of the large amount of sickness amongst the children. That the concert funds be expended as under: —Books for library £2O, apparatus for infants’ room £6, council apparatus £2, rubbish destruction £5, scats for grounds £ls, flag £2. ‘ The balance of £l4 to be spent on improvements to grounds. The above was approved, and it was decided to forward an application to the Education Department for a subsidy on the amount raised.

In reference to .tiro ground improvements, Mr Shipton said tluvt there should be a gate to the' horse paddock on the main road, in order to prevent the children taking their horses through the school grounds. It was decided that a gale be erected. Mr Sliipton said ho would like to sec the front of the school concreted. The ground got in a very bad state during the wet weather, and he felt sure that ' if it were laid down with concrete it would do away with much of the sickness in the school. /Lftor some discussion, Mr Middleton moved that the matter be referred to the Education Department. Seconded by Mr Barrow and carried. Mr Brown suggested that a Paddy’s Market be held to raise funds for concreting and general ground improvements. ■ The question was discussed at some length, and it was finally decided to hold a Paddy’s Market on .December 21st, and a concert in the evening, the proceeds to be devoted to the improvements suggested. Accounts totalling £ls 10/- were road and passed for payment, and the committee rose.
